One local real estate agent should check the dictionary before tossing around fancy marketing slogans like “The Epitome of Gracious Green Living,” which she attached to a new Oakland Hills home. True the interior and exterior wood trim is either FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified, recycled, or local. Some of their wood came from Golden Gate Park’s felled trees that happened during the 1995 winter storm. The house also contains radiant heat and bamboo floors.
But we’re not keen on the Galvanized steel roof as being the epitome of green. True, it offers a lightweight and durable top but all metal roofing is energy-intensive to produce. The kitchen soapstone counters and the limestone based bathroom counters hardly scream green. No dual flush toilets either. Sorry, but this house is hardly “The perfect example of a class or type.”
