Green McMansions

If Fred Flintstone were alive he might build a house in an old quarry in San Rafael where six 5000 square foot Green homes will soon exist. For those new to the Green Real Estate world Green homes and McMansions, when combined, create a type of oxymoron because of the excessive materials used, all well as the egregious energy to heat and cool these size houses. Green builder Michael McCutcheon is doing his part by constructing the homes using a high portion fly ash foundation (which reduces the amount of energy-intensive Portland cement), FSC framing lumber (wood from sustainably grown trees), manufactured lumber for floor beams and joists, formaldehyde free insulation, and low VOC paints.

Developer Michael LeValley mentioned that someone was going to build these ginourmous houses so why not make them as green as possible. True, some green is better than no green. Maybe someone could have built twelve smaller Green houses instead? Anyone for a brontosaurus burger?
