With all the Green condo hoopla focusing on the Arterra in South Beach, it would be easy to overlook the Green Valencia corridor. On 22nd and Valencia, the Lorax guys have quietly erected a darker green building. The carbon imprint of this mixed use project should be much lower than the highly marketed Arterra. Don’t look for LEED certification here as they shoot for a high number with the Green Point Rated system.These condos have a Rainwater catchment system, an all important Photovoltaic (solar) system (not found on the Arterra), Ultra-Touch® Recycled insulation more commonly known as the Blue Jean insulation (as it is made from blue jeans), Radiant floor heating – hydronic heating, and skylights to increase daylighting.
Solar hot water often becomes overlooked in this whole solar trend but they will have it here. Less sexy green attributes include: TREX® composite wood fencing and decking, high volume fly ash concrete, and low VOC paints and caulks (although we might have preferred No VOC paints).
In one of their last projects on Clipper Street they installed Richlite (which after further review tuned out not to be so sustainable) so they made the switch here to use Icestone which offers a Cradle to Cradle certification.
