With gas creeping near the $4.00 mark what better time for San Francisco to open its first proper biodiesel station. Not only does the Dogpatch based Olympian station on Third and 23rd streets offer bioldiesel made from soybean oil for $3.15 a gallon but we also like the French fry whiff from the burning oil, which represents a grand olfactory improvement when compared to diesel fumes.
The station offers B20 fuel, a mix of 20 percent recycled oils and 80 percent traditional diesel fuel. Much of the alt fuel comes from grease collected from businesses, public utilities and restaurants around the city, so think about that meal at KFC as a Green step in the right direction. Sort off. Mostly aimed at commercial fleets, this biostation oasis represents a big green pump in the right direction. For those of you not driving a semi we’ve heard some rumblings about private vehicle biofuel stations opening in SF in the near future.
