San Francisco Green school

Even though California students have lagged near the bottom in recent years for standardized test scores, perhaps the new Green campus for San Francisco’s Waldorf High School will propel those score upward. Grades will surely rise and absenteeism will certainly tumble when Phase One of the hopefully LEED Gold campus (470 West Portal Avenue) comes to fruition in September 2008 2007. Schools built under LEED and CHPS certifications have shown a statistical improvement in student test scores as well as less absenteeism by both students and faculty.

With noted Green architect David Bushnell of 450 Architects behind the design the adaptive re-use of the school marks one of the large hurdles toward obtaining LEED Gold status. But like most schools, they seem to be lacking some funds, so they held a June 7 fundraiser with noted Organic architect Eric Corey Freed and some of the school, board members raising Green awareness. And hopefully cash as well.

Now if anyone has a spare $35,000 someone at the school would definitely like to talk with you about Skylights in the library.
