The feeling was like sustainability meets Hollywood last night at the Embarcadero Theatres in San Francisco with a special screening of The 11th Hour followed by a Q & A discussion. The much awaited Leonardo DiCaprio docu-pic about the impending global disaster that we have on our hands gives the audience a heavy dose of gloom and doom for the first half of the film and demonstrates with beautifully disturbing images and expert quotes that if we as a planet don’t change then we’re screwed. The film transitions to the bad guys of the movie namely corporations and governments (yes that includes the U.S.). Towards the film’s conclusion some notable authorities such as “Cradle to Cradle” author William McDonough demonstrate the progress being made. The film arouses enough emotion, ideas and images and pushes enough buttons to hopefully cause a much needed stir in the masses.
The Q&A included, among others, the film’s co-writers and co-directors Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners but alas, for any teenage girls in the crowd, no sighting of Leo.
