I work as an account manager for a commercial flooring contractor in Sacramentom, CA. We have a corporate account we are pursuing right now and one of their requirements is that we be able to pull up, store, and ship old carpet to a recycling center as part of our contract with their firm. I am inquiring about what the costs are for your services? I am also looking for information on how to determine what type of fiber an existing carpet has on a remodel job in that from my research it appears only type 6.6. nylon can be re-used. Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Maybe you are looking at it upside down. People are still going to build large single family homes in San Francisco. Why not build them as eco friendly as possible? The green community needs to be a little more friendly to contractors who are trying to make a difference with green building. It seems to me some in "the green community" are as intolerante as "the christian evangelists". Is it really all or nothing?
Tough crowd!

I'd like to add that there's an ultra-green restaurant in its infancy in San Francisco that has committed to both Quivira wine and solar energy.

V Restaurant (http://www.vrestaurant.com) is setting out to be "The greenest restaurant in the world" and is actively looking for investors.

They've set their sites rather high, and I would very much like them to acheive everything they set out to achieve. In their own words:

"Join us in showing the world what is possible. Let's do something big. Something important. Let's change the way people think. Let's eat!"

20% biodiesel is better than nothing, but the green part of the fleet we should be celebrating is the electric busses we are blessed to have on so many routes. Those overhead wires allow electric busses to zip up hills the diesels struggle over, & they run throughout the city with zero emissions. Those electric busses are cleaner than a Prius! Even the electricity used is mostly zero emission hydro! If the outer sunset residents weren't so shortsighted, the 71 could have long ago been converted to electric just as the 6 and 7 are. Why those resident would prefer idling diesel to some overhead wires is beyond me.
